Cairns Holiday DAY 1

After a late night ensuring everything was packed and ready to go, we crawled out of bed at 4am to get ready for our long anticipated holiday. We grabbed the kids out of bed at 5am and put them straight in the car. They were very excited and mixed with tiredness it made for an interesting journey to the airport! (Isabella is just like her mummy and when tired she gabbles on and on without taking a breath!!

We met up with Mum and Raelene at the airport and went straight to check-in. Being a family with small children we were able to board the aircraft first to get settled in. We gave Rick cuddles and kisses as we wasn’t joining us until a few more days.

The flight was fantastic! I was so impressed with the way the children coped with taking off and landing. While we were waiting on the tarmac it was really quiet and Isabella said out loud “When are we blasting off?”. It was so funny and everyone around us laughed! The girls were entertained with the dvd player, colouring in and just looking out the window at the clouds. On descent I showed Isabella the flaps on the wings moving and she misunderstood what I said. She thought I meant the actual wings were flapping! She was most disappointed when she didn’t see them flapping away!! That also created a few laughs around us.

Arriving in Cairns was great. We were met by Debbie and Tim and all we could see coming toward us was a great big 33week pregnant belly! Debbie looked fantastic and although she didn’t think so, I thought pregnancy really suited her. After a few welcome tears and hugs we made our way out to the car. We left melbourne when it was 13 degrees (7am) and when we arrived at Cairns it was 25deg and overcast. But we could feel that lovely tropical moist heat in the air and it wasn't long until the layers of clothes came off! In the carpark I was most impressed to find my first cane toad!! It was dead flat on the road complete with tyre skid marks over it! Naturally, I took a photo!

We made our way to Redlynch Valley to Debbie and Tim’s new home. On the way Debbie gave me a running commentary of the local area and what it has to offer. Her home is in a brand new estate and it was breathtaking. I felt like I was in the Big Brother house with all the clean lines and open spaces. The views from the patio were brilliant and just lovely to wake up to every morning. We spent the afternoon helping Debbie and Tim settle in a bit more and unpack things. They had only just moved in 5 days earlier so weren’t quite settled in. Mum and Raelene went shopping with Debbie while I stayed home and the girls had a rest. We had a nice relaxing evening just chatting and doing a lot of catching up before going to bed. It was nice to be with my sisters again, such a shame that there was only 3 of the 4 sisters though.

Day 1 photos are here.
